Random picker: wheel, numbers, names and teams
The random picker brings six tools for classes, meetings and events together: a wheel spinner, random numbers, drawing names, splitting teams, a random order, and a coin, dice and yes or no. The wheel, draw, teams and order all use the same list, which you can save under a name. Everything runs in the browser.
The modes
- Wheel
- The entries of the list on a wheel. It spins with the button, the space bar or a flick of the hand and slows down like a real wheel. Winners can stay on the wheel or be removed. A weight such as «Olivia ×2» gives an entry a slice twice as large.
- Number
- Whole numbers between two limits up to ±1 trillion, one or many, with or without repeats, sorted or in draw order. Presets cover 1 to 6, 1 to 10, 1 to 100, the Swiss Lotto and EuroMillions.
- Draw
- Draw names without replacement, one at a time or several at once, numbered. The draw can continue, the last draw can be undone and the round started over.
- Teams
- Split the list into a number of teams or into teams of a given size. Team sizes differ by at most one person. Chosen people are spread across different teams and can lead them as captains. Team names are yours to choose.
- Order
- Put the whole list into a random, numbered order, for example for presentations, exams or turns in a game.
- Coin and dice
- One to ten coins with a running tally, one to ten dice with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20 or 100 sides and their sum, and a quick decision between yes and no.
List, history and presentation
- List
- One entry per line. A column copied from Excel or a line with commas is split into separate entries when pasted. Duplicates are marked and removed with one click. Several lists such as «Class 3b» or «Marketing team» stay saved on this device.
- History
- Every result of the session with its time, to copy one by one or all at once.
- Presentation
- The tool fills the whole screen, for projectors and shared screens. The space bar starts the next draw, Escape closes the view.
- Chance
- Every result comes from the browser’s random generator (crypto.getRandomValues) and is mapped to the range without bias. The wheel’s result is fixed before it turns; the animation only shows where it stops.
Example
The example list holds twelve first names. With it:
| Wheel with «Olivia ×2» | 2 of 13 shares, a 15.4 % chance |
|---|---|
| Teams of at most 5 | 3 teams of 4 people |
| Draw, 4 at a time | 3 draws until everyone is drawn |
| Swiss Lotto 6 of 42 with lucky number | 31,474,716 possible tickets |
| EuroMillions 5 of 50 with 2 stars | 139,838,160 possible tickets |
The Lotto and EuroMillions presets only draw numbers by the rules of the games; they have no link to any operator.
Frequently asked questions
Is the result really random?
Yes. The numbers come from the browser’s cryptographic random generator. Values outside the range are rejected instead of being folded back, so every number and every name has exactly the same chance. On the wheel, the winner is drawn before it turns.
How do I give a name more weight?
Write a weight after the name, such as «Olivia ×2», «Olivia x2» or «Olivia *1.5». On the wheel its slice grows and its chance rises in the same proportion. Draw, teams and order treat all names alike.
Are my lists saved?
Yes, in this browser’s storage on this device. The lists are not sent anywhere. The history and draws in progress belong to the open window.
Can I show the wheel in class?
Yes. The presentation shows the wheel or the result full screen and responds to the space bar. Sound can be switched off; when the system asks for reduced motion, the result appears at once.
How are teams split fairly?
Team sizes differ by at most one. People you choose under «Spread» are placed first and evenly in different teams; everyone else fills the remaining places at random.
